It is becoming increasingly difficult to stand out in the compact SUV segment. True to the brand's DNA, the Jeep Compass is one of the few models capable of delivering a genuine spirit of adventure without compromising comfort and technology.
The concept behind the Jeep Compass focuses on balancing urban design with real off-road capability. It may not be the most modern vehicle in its class, but it knows exactly where it belongs, and that's what makes it such an interesting model.
The 2026 Jeep Compass lineup consists of four different trims, starting with the Sport model with a starting price of $36,995. This is right around the segment average, but more importantly, it comes with a fairly comprehensive list of standard equipment, which isn't always the case elsewhere.
Next comes the North trim at $41,095, which adds a wide range of technologies to the Compass lineup. The luxurious Altitude trim follows with a starting price of $43,590. If you're an off-road enthusiast, you'll likely be drawn to the Trailhawk version, and its price of $46,595 remains reasonable considering its capabilities. Finally, the Limited trim sits at the top of the lineup with a starting price of $51,095.
The Jeep Compass has long evolved between two categories, but today it is considered a compact SUV. Its level of equipment and overall build quality are impressive. In addition, it is one of the few models in its segment to offer a version with genuine off-road capability.
Rivals: Chevrolet Equinox, Dodge Hornet, Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-50, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan
The Jeep Compass features a design that is elegant enough to stand out in the city, yet rugged enough to climb a mountain. It's a vehicle that seems perfectly at home no matter the terrain it finds itself on. The graphic elements found on the Trailhawk version make it particularly appealing.
Its cabin is refined and even quite luxurious for a vehicle in this category. The seats are very comfortable. It is slightly less spacious than it might appear, but its ergonomics have been carefully designed. Its multimedia system is among the best currently available on the market.
The 2026 Jeep Compass offers only one powertrain option, which is far from being a bad thing. In fact, the American manufacturer seems to have found the perfect balance here. The SUV is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Jeep Compass is also one of the few vehicles in its class to offer a true 4x4 system as standard, which gives it a clear advantage over the competition. As for fuel economy, the Compass averages 9.9 L/100 km in the city and 7.4 L/100 km on the highway.
Some trims are expensive. In terms of size, it sits right on the border between a subcompact and a compact model.
It is an elegant yet rugged model. Its value for money is impressive. It offers solid off-road capability. Its multimedia system is effective and easy to use.
The Trailhawk version and its genuine off-road capability.
The Jeep Compass has already undergone a major transformation in other markets. This vision of the model's future is very interesting, and I'm eager to see this new generation arrive here in North America. That said, the current model remains appealing and is one of the few vehicles of its size that can truly satisfy outdoor enthusiasts.
